The Gridiron League →
Designer Wes Kul:
Gridiron League is a collection of idealized NFL insignias that pay tribute to each teams’ history and geography in a period-specific aesthetic that glorifies the Vince Lombardi-era over the Cold-Activated-era. This is not an exercise in nostalgia but an interpretation of the league’s founding principles through the symbols that we, as football fans, identify...

Carnitas
If you needed proof that your deity of choice wants us to eat delicious pork, look no further than this dish. Eating good carnitas is like having your tongue tickled by youthful, bubbly french maids. It’s sweet and a little spicy, and you just want it to keep happening. Eating bad carnitas is like being at Chipotle.
Traditionally, carnitas are made with pork butt. I’ve done it...
Let's talk about tumblr.
A couple years ago, I started this blog as a photoblog. Then I wanted to do links, and short-form writing. Now, I guess, it’s time for the next iteration. I want to write better, and the only way to do that is to write more. I don’t think that tumblr is the right platform for that; at least nor for me.
I’m keeping the tumblr up, at least for the time being, but I’m moving...

Macworld on iTunes Match →
What happens if I don’t re-subscribe after the first year? Will I lose any upgraded songs?
Nope. Any songs you’ve upgraded or downloaded again are completely safe. The only thing you lose is the central storage—iCloud will no longer let you stream or download matched or uploaded songs to your various devices.
Sold.

Regarding those Hardware Checklists →
A new sales rep for a product we use told me yesterday that the iPhone 4S was a “Failure”. I laughed and said we’d talk in twelve months, and that I’d put money down that twelve months from now the iPhone 4S would still be the best selling phone on the market. Because the iPhone 4 was, 15 months after it’s release, the best selling phone on the market. If I’m...

Anonymous asked: Got it to work, and really love it, but it isn't formatting correctly. The headers are too far over compared to the statistics, but the teams and such are all lined up with each other. Would appreciate some help, thanks.
Anonymous asked: I saw your MLB standings geeklet and I thought it was really cool. However I a new to using geeklets and cannot figure out how to get the standings to show up. I got the Frame to show up (ex. W, L, GB etc.) but I cannot get the standings. I was wondering if you could make a file for me for the NL East so that I can just download it and install it because I'm having a lot of trouble. Thanks...

Yankees win the AL East.
And the MLB Geeklet shows some cracks.
Add
s/<td\ class=\"first\">y-<a href=\"\/index.jsp\?c_id=[a-z]\{2,3\}\">//g
to the geeklet command (I put it at line 4), and the first line that was ugly is again made readable!

Jobs’s greatest creation isn’t any Apple product. It is Apple itself.

Apple Tax, Eh? →
Ben Brooks on Monica Chen and Joseph Tsai’s report on the cost of manufacturing “ultrabooks”; super-thin, small but powerful notebook computers along the lines of the MacBook Air.
In short, you can’t build them to match the specs of Apple’s machines without raising the price above Apple’s offerings. In other words, the MacBook Air is priced very well.

lbweller asked: Hey Jehan,
I'm a huge fan of your work with geeklets and I'm using your MLB standings geeklet now. I've actually modeled my desktop after your Baltimore one that you put on Flickr in May. (Except I'm a Nats fan).
Anyway, my question is how did you get the date to display in lowercase? I cannot find a script that does it and its bugging me. Any help...

Rumors of Apple unlocking Bluetooth on Second-Gen... →
If Apple launched an App Store with AppleTV games, I’d probably never buy another console again. I might keep something around to emulate old NES, SNES and N64 games, but that’s about it. I know it’s a long way out, and it’s really uncertain, but I’d be stoked if it happened.

Cisco To Shut Down Flip Video Camera Business;... →
It’s one of those sad things. Within a year of the Flip’s original release, it was clear that these cameras were cool, but were going to be integrated into devices we were already carrying around. Cisco purchased Pure Digital well after the writing was on the wall.

Cisco purchasing Pure Digital Technologies never really made sense to me two years ago when I covered it for...

Anonymous asked: cannot get the geeklet to work. I am trying to get it up and running for the O's! Everything is where it is supposed to be and all of the scripts transferred correctly. Any ideas? Thanks from a fellow Birds fan!!

Anonymous asked: Love the MLB Geeklet. Since you seem to be more familiar with scripting, would you be interested in trying to write a Geeklet that lists a team's last game and upcoming matchup?

MLB Standings Geeklet
Guys, baseball season is days away from beginning, and I’m stoked. As a result, I’ve made something for you!
I’ve talked about GeekTool in the past. I’ve made it do some pretty fancy things. I haven’t had it installed since I got my new 13” MacBook Pro. I just haven’t had a need for it. This week, I was looking at the website for my beloved Orioles1, I...

Joel Johnson visits Foxconn for Wired →
I started this article a half-dozen times, but put it down repeatedly because I knew the meat of the article deserved time and consideration. I finally sat down with it, and it didn’t disappoint. Johnson uses Foxconn’s story to tell a much bigger story of consumption and humanity.
We squander millions of years’ worth of stored energy, stored life, from our planet to make not only...

Why I am not worried about Japan’s nuclear... →
A really good analysis of the chain of events around the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant in Japan. The media is making this seem like a Big Scary Deal. The truth is that while it’s definitely serious, the systems and engineers worked almost exactly as-designed.
